Comment: Hi Everyone,

I was so glad to know about our renunion's website as my husband and I won't be able to attend.

I was married right after high school of which the marriage lasted 11 yrs.  I have two daughters from that marriage.  Soon after married the man of my dreams, a cowboy/policeman.  We located to the Modesto, CA area where he was a city officer.  13 years later bought a ranch in Susanville, CA, Lassen Co.  We no longer have the ranch, but are raising quarter horses and showing the American Quarter Horse Circuit which entails many states.  We have been very fornutate as we had two World Champions, a Reserve "World Champion and a yearling filly that was top 10 in the world.

Pete is retired from the Sheriff's Dept here in Lassen Co, and I'm retired from a shcool district as their business manager.  Our three lovely daughters gave us 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.  Most all are grown now, but the little greats.

Our two oldest daughters are still in the Modesto area and our youngest (37) married a rancher in the Alturas, Ca. area.  They raise cattle and hay.

We pretty much have done what we wanted to, ranch!  Done a little traveling with the horses.  Our health is very good, except for aches and pains, but guess that goes with our age now.

Would love to hear from any of you since we won't be able to be at the reunion.

Janis

Comment: 1) Since graduation I have had a good life. Six months after graduating I left for Southern California to attend college and marry before returning to live in Orinda. Two children blessed my life, Randall and Jennifer now 47 and 45.

By 1980 I found my real calling in life, the travel business! Working in two full service travel agencies in Lafayette and Moraga, gave me the experience to buy my own business, Orinda travel service in 1986.  Within four years I could see that the airlines would someday stop paying commission to travel agencies.  I sold Orinda travel and opened a cruise only agency in Moraga in 1990. It was certainly a big joy in my life. I traveled the world; mostly by cruise ship.

I met the love of my life, Gerald Jenkins on a cruise ship in 1994. Gerry convinced me to marry him and move to Vancouver, B.C. Canada in 1999. I continued serving my clients and traveling with my love. I became a Canadian citizen in 2003.  I am a dual citizen holding two passports and am very proud I might say.

Finding it very hard to find a doctor and suitable health care we decided to move back to the U.S when I reached 65.  We moved across the border to Semiahmoo, a resort community, at Blaine, Washington. We now divide our time between Blaine and our condo in Phoenix, AZ.

Our children are our pride and joy. Randall is the “plant registrar” [curator] at the University of Washington arboretum in Seattle. Jennifer is a respiratory therapist and divides her time between Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe. Karen is a history professor at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. We are pleased they are all very happily married.

I am very thankful for a wonderful life, great husband and being able to travel the world.

2) Becoming a grandmother in March 2010.  Continue traveling.

Comment: After we graduated I went to Laney for a semester. I got my first job in the printing industry. I worked my way through the trade from helper, then apprentice and on to journeyman. I was also a working foreman for 6 years. I took an early retirement after 45 years. At the same time I was involved with my labor union as a shop steward, executive board member, trustee and vice president. I have been married to the same woman for 44 years and have 2 daughters and 1 son. At present I have 1 granddaughter.

My plans for the next 50 years are to enjoy my retirement as much as possible.

Comment: 1) After graduation I went to work for an insurance company. I met a girl; quit the insurance job and took another job with a vending machine company; married the girl; then got laid-off. I got another job in the hospitality business.

Thinking ahead I joined the Army before I was drafted. I went to electronics school; was stationed in southern Arizona, then sent to Germany. Got divorced while in the service and finished enlistment. When I came home I found employment at Lockheed. I met Dona, who came with a readymade family, two kids, a girl and a boy and we got married.

I took many classes in electronics then went to school to learn computer programming. We had good jobs but didn't like the lifestyle in the Bay Area, so we sold our house, quit our jobs, pulled the kids out of school and moved to Dorris, CA.

After that we both landed jobs with the Klamath County School District in Klamath Falls Oregon. I worked for the district for 23 years as a Data Processing Manager and then retired. Two years later Dona retired and we moved into Klamath Falls. Since then we travel (we are officially snow birds for about five months each winter and spring) and play as much golf as we can.

2) Pretty much continue doing what we are doing now and probably move to a different house around Klamath Falls.

Comment: I have always considered OHS as my Highschool and when I went there I was in the 1959 Class.  My regret is that in Oct 1958 I quit and went to the Navy.  I know, how dumb can you be.  I was not the best student and for me it was a good move.  I next got married, had two kids to go with the one my first wife had and after 10 years we divorced and I met and married my present wife of 31 years.  I retired as a contractor in 2006 and have been traveling in our 5th wheel trailer.

Comment: After college graduation I left the country and lived in Aberdeen, Scotland from 1964-1984, returning just in time to live in D.C. and attend Reagan's second inauguration. (I didn't vote from him but who can resist a good party?) I was part of a Theatre in Education team, performing and teaching in the Grampion Region.

Since '84 I have worked in school programing, corporate video and finished up testing women's opinions about new cosmetics and getting to travel to marketing facilities around the country.

I have been married to a Presbyterian minister for 40 years and we have 3 children and 2 grandchildren.

I will not be at the reunion because I have just started classes in acting at Temple University in Philadelphia. I have not studied acting for 47 years and I am excited at the prospect of reclaiming parts of myself that I may not even know about. I am definitely more mellow, liberal, and freer with each passing year.

Comment: 1. I am married to Bonnie Adair Jones since May, 1962 and we have four children and five grandchildren.  We have lived in Auburn since 1969 and plan to stay here.  I retired from CSAA (AAA) in 1999 and have kept my insurance license active since then.  I do some consulting in the political and government areas.  We are active in our community affairs, world travelers and still in touch with life-long friends.  Bonnie and I are enjoying good health and having a good life.

2. Travel to Antarctica to step on our seventh continent and continue our business investments and participate with our children and grandchildren’s life milestones.

Comment:

After graduation from Oakland High School, I traveled to Stockton, attended and graduated from the University of the Pacific in 1963 then from graduate school at  UOP in 1964 with a General Secondary Teaching Credential.

From Stockton I relocated to Pomona, CA, teaching in the secondary school system.  It was in Pomona where I met my future husband, Bill.  We were married 5 years later, moved to our home in Claremont, and were blessed with two sons.

At the time of the approaching birth of our first son, I 'temporarily' gave up teaching.  During this time I caught the 'bug' of my husbands passion for flying.  I never intended to pursue anything past a Private Pilots License but somehow it just happened.  I ended up back in the teaching profession only this time teaching Aeronautics at Mt. San Antonio Community College.  (They have quite a large Aviation program.)  At the same time I was a Flight Instructor at one of our local airports.  (This all took place beginning in 1981.)

I retired from MSAC after 25 years of teaching and in 1996, I was asked by the FAA's Los Angeles office to become a Designated Pilot Examiner.  I am still working full time in this capacity.  (I oral test and flight test individuals and issue licenses for Private Pilot, Instrument Rating, Commercial Pilot, Flight Instructor Airplane and Flight Instructor Instrument.)  I love my job!  I  am able to work on my own schedule which gives us the time to travel.

Bill is retired from the textile industry and we try to do a couple of trips a year.  With our sons both grown we only have Abbey, our Golden Retriever, at home.  In our spare time we enjoy family activities with our sons, daughter-in-law, and two granddaughters.  (5years & 7years.)  I feel I have been blessed with a full and wonderful life.

I would like to continue to live a blessed life.

Update;

I am still working as an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner.  I would like to continue to fly for at least another two years.  The word "retired" doesn't seem to be part of my vocabulary.

My husband passed away on January 1st., 2011, but I have managed to continue to live a very fulfilling life.

Comment:

1) After graduation from Oakland I attended Chapman College [now university] where I met my husband, Vaughan.  We have no children.  I became a preschool teacher and later an administrator of programs funded by the department of education.  Over the years I worked for LAUSD, Fresno unified and Rancho Santiago Community College District.  For three years I worked in Detroit’s inner city.  At one point I taught classes in child development part time at the community college level.

We’ve lived in a number of places: Norwalk, Fresno, West Los Angeles, Detroit, Orange County and now Beaumont. We are still adjusting to the weather and the smaller town atmosphere but enjoy the blue, blue sky with the mountains in the background. We enjoy our home and being a mile away from Lakeview elementary alum, Diane Gladson.

We’ve traveled extensively and have developed a love of cruising. My favorite spots have been Mexico, Maine, Maui, Greece and London. Our travels have been curtailed for the last year except for trips to City of Hope Hospital where my husband is undergoing treatment for stage 4 lung Cancer.

I’ve been active in alumni activities at Chapman and assisted my husband in his rotary work; especially when he served as a district governor. I’m active in P.E.O, a sorority which supports women’s education. Since my retirement in 2001 I’ve volunteered extensively at a state preschool, and now volunteer at a nonprofit art gallery in Banning.

Vaughan and I were honored to receive Chapman’s Life Time Service Award in 2005. We also established an endowed scholarship in theatre arts at Chapman in 2005.

For the most part my passion revolved around my work. I gave a lot but gained so much in working closely with children, parents and staff.

My Oakland High experience was great. We had some excellent teachers from whom I learned not only facts but, more importantly, more about myself, others and life in general. It certainly helped prepare me for these last 50 years.

My regret at this time is being unable to attend the reunion and not having the chance to reconnect with classmates I’ve not seen in 45 to 50 years.

2)My plans changed this last year when my husband was found to have stage 4 lung cancer[inoperable]. For someone who seemed so healthy this surprise has really changed our lives. I plan to continue to look for the good and hang on to my sense of humor.
