After graduating from high school I worked in several different fields. In 1968 I went to work for Eric F. Anderson, Inc. - General Contractor. After thirty-three years, I retired in 2002 as vice president and part owner. In 1965 I was still single and living a great bachelor's life when I made a major course correction in my life and joined the Mormon Church. At age 29 I met my wife Marilyn, and we were married in the Oakland LDS Temple. We moved to Pleasanton, CA. and lived there for over 30 years. We have eight children (2 sons and 6 daughters). In 2001 we moved to Providence, Utah where I designed and built our "dream home". We love living amidst the mountains here in the Cache Valley. One of our daughters lives in Yelm, Washington and they have 4 children. We have another married daughter who lives in Bonstetten, Switzerland and they have 3 children. Our other 6 children and corresponding grandchildren all live here in Utah. We are expecting our 12th grandchild soon. I still continue to work for an engineering firm in Brigham City, Utah. We have two children living at home and both are students at Utah State University which is located minutes from our home. Megan, age 19 is our youngest daughter and is studying to be a registered nurse. David, age 22, in majoring in business. He recently served a two-year mission for our church in Leeds, England. We had the opportunity to pick him up last year and then we visited his sister and her family in Switzerland. I just finished serving for 3 years as a member of a bishopric at the university working with freshmen students. It was a fantastic experience. Marilyn and I have traveled all over the world and also love to cruise. Having a daughter in Switzerland gives us a home base in Europe. Our favorite place to visit is Italy. The last time we were in Italy we traveled with our daughter and her husband and stayed at a little bed and breakfast in Palestrina, outside of Rome. While there we met a priest from Eritria, Africa. He was in Italy recuperating from malaria. His church had also been destroyed and he was seeking assistance to help his people. He wanted to come to America, but needed a sponsor. We ended up offering to sponsor him and he later came to stay with us for a while. That was a great experience for us, and for our family. It was especially fun to take him (an African, Catholic priest) to Salt Lake City to attend our churches general conference, in which he seemed to take a great interest. We continue to correspond with him in Rome. As soon as our last two children finish college or get married, I plan to retire and we hope to continue to travel and serve in our church. |

1) I have been married for 47 years to my wonderful husband whom I met and married shortly after I was out of high school. We have a delightful daughter and two amazing grandsons. I love to travel, so, every chance I get I do just that! I’ve taken several cruises; have been to Europe, Mexico, the Caribbean, plus visiting several areas in the United States. I worked for the Clorox Company in Oakland for 15 years and HMT Technology in Fremont for eight years. I also managed the office in my husband’s business for 25 years. Since I have been retired I am enjoying being an active member of the Red Hat Society. 2) To be healthy, traveling and enjoying life with my family and friends. |

Henry Huie (Chin) 3379 Amherst Ln. San Jose, CA 95117 8henry8@sbcglobal.net 1) Long ago and far away, before high school: I was born in New York City. At the end of WWII, my parents and I went back to China for two years. We rode the train to Oakland and traveled to Hong Kong from San Francisco on an ocean liner. While in China we lived in my parent’s village in Canton for three months. Later we moved to Hong Kong where I went to school learning Chinese by the rote method — the normal way to learn a tonal language. By the time we returned to the US I had forgotten all my English! My father liked the weather in California so we stayed here. We had a laundry business in the Diamond District and I went to Sequoia School where I was the only Chinese kid. After Sequoia I went to Roosevelt Junior High and then Oakland High. In the past 50: I went to a number of colleges in the Bay Area. I had no idea what I wanted to do. I learned how to play bridge, which was not a good thing; I played tennis for one year at SF State; I got a job working for the Navy in San Francisco where I learn to program computers at the Naval Lab, unfortunately the lab closed down after five years. During this time, I got hooked on skiing. Since my parents had passed away the pressure was off about getting married. I thought about moving to Aspen and becoming a ski bum. I worked at a ski shop after the lab closed. Then an opportunity came up for me to own a sports shop in the Sainte Francis district in S.F. That adventure lasted for a year and a half and then I sold the business. At this same time I got married and moved to San Jose. I got back into programming and worked for a number of high tech companies and a bank. For the last 11 years of my working life, I was a techie and provided PC support. At first, I did phone support to our customers and by the end I supported our in-house users. Fifteen years ago I found my true calling, I now coach volleyball for a local high school — after all these different careers I realize that I should have been a PE teacher! Coming out of OHS, with all the rough and tumble guys I wasn’t so sure I could deal with that, so, the ‘real’ career came to me late in life. 2) Now that I am retired I want to see more of our country. I have a book titled “1000 Places to See Before You Die.”There is also one on world places to see, so, if I have time I’ll complete that one too! As you can see, I’m going to be very busy. We have two sons and they are finally out of the house freeing up even more travel time. |

1) I was married to Jim Cole for 33 years, father of Kelly and Andrew. Jim passed away of brain cancer shortly after retiring from the San Leandro Fire Department. In 1997 I married Chuck Schultz and we moved to Brentwood six years ago. In 2000 I retired from the State of California EED, which allows time for my sewing and Chuck’s golf. How did I ever find time to work? We do some traveling, gardening and a little of everything else. We have four grandchildren between us and of course they are the smartest and cutest grandchildren in the world. 2) Watch our grandchildren grow and BE HAPPY! |

I've been in New Orleans for 30+ years off and on. I spent 4 yrs in Tahoe. I worked in ER at night and hotel. I worked in ER for 15 years in New Orleans. It was quite an education. Early life path change went on a "walk-about" (drove cross country to Canada and back -) I was blessed to be able to be gone one year. It was great fun and experiences. I was affected by Katrina tragedy. I lost all, and began over again at 64. Life changing - with help and my well-learned ability to be patient - all is well now, and on this part of my life-path have become farmer Jane, (on a little acre in the country) and I write for access T.V. (free T.V. in New Orleans). My life is full and my two grand girls are close. |

Comment:
When I graduated from OHS I was already planning on going to Samuel Merritt School of Nursing to become an RN. I worked at the Bank of California until I left, so got introduced to my life's career of Bookkeeping. I met many friends thru that 1st 6 month "probation period". When my steady for 2 years, Ernie Dalton Jun'57 asked me to marry him, I had to make a decision. Life is certainly full of decisions. So I quit nursing school, because you couldn't be married while going thru the program. I went back to the Bank of California and put Ernie thru his senior year at CAL. Back then you married and had kids. So with barely a job out of Cal, we had our first son, who turned out to have a major heart defect. He was operated on by the famed specialist, Dr. Shumway. He didn't survive the operation. Our second son was born a year later, and he is 46. When Jeff was just 10 months old, the doctor came into the room and said I had Type I Diabetes. By then the doctor was happy to see me go and we moved to LA for Ernie's first big job. We stayed down there for 2 years and then Ern got his break to move to Boise, Idaho with Unocal Chemicals selling fertilizer. We were there for 3 1/2 years and then moved to Chico where we have lived for 40 years now. While in Idaho we were able to adopt our beautiful daughter, Laura who is 41 and a family practice physician. Our youngest son, who is 39, was born in Chico. There are 6 grandchildren with the oldest being 19, who is living with us now to go to college, and our youngest who is 4. About 18 years ago we purchased 10 acres in a mountain community just 20 minutes from Chico up in Forest Ranch. We have enjoyed camping up there with our tent-trailer and dreaming of a day we can build a mountain cabin for "getting away" times. |
