My best efforts to spoil my two grandsons, 9 and 12, have succeeded. They love their grandma! Last year I retired from a great job at Chabot College’s School of the Arts. Working with creative students and faculty for 24 years was a wonderful experience. Now I’m embarking on new careers: taking a piano class (I’ve mastered Middle C), woodworking (made a gorgeous cutting board), traveling (Australia and New Zealand are on the calendar for February), and last, but not least, growing vegetables! I’m a rookie farmer, and it’s fun harvesting vegetables grown in the backyard. Have fun at the reunion. I was asked to watch my two grandsons that weekend; actually they take care of me now. |

Had a great time at OHS. After highschool I met the love of my life, Ginnie. We were married in 1964, one of the many high points in my life. After that I proceeded to finally graduate from Merritt College (Biology), and Hayward State (Econ.), and then Golden Gate Univ. School of Law. We moved to Hanford, in California's San Joaquin Valley, where I found work with the Office of the Kings County District Attorney. We have lived in Hanford ever since, but I have of course worked elsewhere including a couple of years of private practice, where my kids were always asleep when I finally got home. After a second few years with the D.A.'s Office, where I got to see the kids, I went to work with State Compensation Insurance Fund. I have now been with State Fund for 19+ years defending workers' compensation matters. I plan to retire in a year or so, maybe, probably. Ginnie, who is retired, would just as soon I retire now. I will admit that work is very seriously interfering with my social and other life. We have two children, Patrick (38), and Jennifer (31) and grandchildren Aaron (20) and Sierra (5). Pat is a correctional officer at Corcoran, and Jennifer is working two part-time jobs and attending college. Our children are always enjoyable. Ginnie and I have enjoyed travel once in a while, and that is always a thrill. Here in California we enjoy going to the coast, and to the Sierras. One of my favorite hobbies is fly fishing on streams for trout. I am sure that I will get more of that in after retirement. Also, after I retire my days off will better match my son's shift work days off. Other hobbies go from gardening to building and concrete finishing. I will not however be riding my beloved yellow Harley after totalling it into the side of some (momentarily) brainless kid's pickup. I am now full circle having had the plate and screws removed last Wednesday, 9-9-09. Ankle and leg are great. Went dove hunting this evening. My Browning must shoot a doughnut pattern. I couldn't have missed that many! |

While I was in high school I started teaching Sunday School to the three and four year olds. Then after high school I continued teaching, Kindergarten through fifth grades. I was director for Sparks (kindergarten through second grades) AWANA club for 19 years at church. I worked at a brokerage firm for a number of years as a PBX operator, Teletype operator and secretary. I then attended a one-year Bible school in Culver City. From there I went back to the brokerage firm for 5 years. The Bible school called me several times asking me to return to the school as registrar. I finally accepted, and it also included being dorm mom, etc., I did this for 10 years and then went on to become a receptionist at a dental X-ray lab. I am the co-founder of Puppettree and have performed over 200 puppet programs up and down the coast of California. I have also sung with the Torrance Civic Chorale for 17 years, which included a trip to New York City where I sang at Carnegie Hall. My singing has also taken me to the Berkshire’s, in Massachusetts, and to Germany to perform with other singers from around the world. My recycling project has provided me with trips to the Philippines, England, Ireland, Scotland, France and Germany (twice). I have also traveled to Japan, Austria and Hungary. For 22 years I was the administrative assistant to the program manager at Hughes/Raytheon here in El Segundo. I do volunteer work at the Manhattan Beach Botanical Gardens doing a bit of everything: watering, weeding, cutting down bushes — whatever is needed. Another volunteer project is at the Attic Thrift Store in Lomita. I go twice a week to sort, price, display and sell. All proceeds to go sending kids to camp. The Sonora, California area (near Yosemite) is familiar territory to me as I go to see my sister Dorothy. I also visited my parents who moved from Hayward to an assisted living home in 2003 there in Sonora. My father passed away at 101 years in May 2007 and then in September 2008 my mother passed away at 94. They had been married 71 years and one day. My father graduated from OHS in 1928, my mother graduated from OHS in 1932, Dorothy graduated from OHS 1955 and here I am celebrating our 50th class reunion! I am very blessed with good health. Plans for the next 50 years are to live one day at a time and be thankful to the Lord for each day, my family, friends and my health. |

My wife, Barbara, and I have 3 Sons, 10 Grandkids and 8 Great Grandkids. We have lived in Florida and Texas and have traveled all over the world. Every June we go to our place in Cabo San Lucas and celebrate our anniversary. I'm retired after selling surgical supplies for 55 years. We live on Lake Conroe north of Houston and I race cars on the weekends and water ski. I want to stay healthy for the next 50 years so I can travel and continue racing. |

Comment: I am looking forward to the class reunion in September! I am a retired special education teacher. I live in Santa Rosa with my husband on our vineyard where we raise syrah grapes to sell and make wine. I am fortunate to have our 3 children near by and we enjoy spending time with our 8 grandchildren. I love to garden, travel, do pilates and take classes at Sonoma State. |
